The MTC group has supported various scientific, cultural and humanitarian initiatives in Africa.

01. Scientific

. There are birds in Angola, which were thought to be extinct

One of the facts with the greatest repercussions was the discovery in Angola of various species of birds, which were thought to be extinct. This ornithological work was carried out by the Percy FitzPatrick Institute, at Cape Town University - South Africa.

02. Humanitarian

. KIMBO Community - Peace Village

The village is sponsored by MITC Investimentos SARL. Prof. Romero Rodriguez, a United Nations consultant and president of the Afro Mundo Organisation in Uruguay, visited Luanda, in order to establish an international aid programme for the Republic of Angola. The visit programme included participation in a conference at the Catholic University on “The Presence and Support of Afro-descendents in Latin America and the Caribbean”, in addition to a meeting with the Minister of Culture, Boaventura Cardoso. Prof. Romero Rodriguez also visited the KIMBO community - Peace Village for approximately 400 deprived children and took part in various meetings with NGOs, such as the Rotary Club of Angola.
The practical results of this visit led to the preparation of a series of preliminary documents, which include:

• Establishment of an academic co-operation programme between Angolan, Latin American and Caribbean teachers.
• Search for aid for medical and social work projects to aid the KIMBO Peace Village.
• Increased demand for aid for business projects.

Prof. Romero Rodriguez will return to Luanda during the first half of 2004 in order to implement some of these proposals.

NOTE: As this type of initiative is open to all, we invite other organisations, which are interested in co-operating in all or part of this solidarity campaign to join us.
